This is the story of the last bastion of aviation exploration– The Antarctic. Through the eyes of those that United States Naval aviators, who in the early years of the Operation Deep Freeze flew their twin engine R4-D [DC-3’s] the 2,200 miles over the frozen Antarctic waters from New Zealand to McMurdo Sound.

This is a story of young aviators going where no one has gone before, opening up the continent. Lest we forget these men, fifty of whom have died in Antarctica during the 44 years of the operation, paying the ultimate price to advance the cause of science.
